It's
a space - large or small that you set up
to honour and connect with spirit.
It can be as large as an entire room or
as small as a shoebox, the size does not
matter, just the intent of it .Whatever
is right for you is right.
A Sacred Space is all about honouring and
connecting with the essence of who you are.
It is all about sacredness. |
Most people think of an altar when they think
about a Sacred Space. Whilst an altar can be all
your Sacred Space is, your Sacred Space can be
much larger and used for more purposes than that
it's entirely your choosing.
Most people start off with setting up an Altar
as their sacred Space so here's some information
to help you do just that.
Creating an Altar
An altar is a physical space you dedicate to
spirit. It can be a table, a shoebox, a piece
of carpet or an old box, the size and what it
is made from is not important. What is important
are the items you place on your altar, each
item needs to carry meaning for you and feel
right for you.
Listed below are some of the items that are
on my altar to give you an idea of what types
of things you can use to create your own. Remember,
what is right for me, might not be right for
you, so trust yourself and only do what is right
for YOU.
| Candles |
I always light candles on my altar before
doing any type of spiritual work. It helps
me connect with the space and serves as
a sign to spirit that I wish to connect
with them. It honours the element of fire
and enhances creativity. |
| Crystals
/ Rocks |
I have a number of different crystals
and rocks on my altar which help to bring
in the earth element and to ground the space
and the energy as I work. To find out more,

| Feathers |
I have feathers on my altar to bring in
the element of air and to honour all messengers. |
| Water |
I have water, either in a glass or quenching
flowers in a vase to bring in this element
and to honour the flow of life. |
| Pictures |
I have various pictures and photos on
my altar. They all help me to connect with
my heart and continue to stay within my
heart as I work. |

Just as you keep your home clean it is
important to keep your sacred space clean
and free from dust and dirt. Move items
as you need to, dust and clean so that the
energy remains clear and light. |
| Air
Flow |
Open up the windows and doors and let
the air flow through. This ensures the energy
flows continually and doesn't become stagnant.
It will also help to shift and clear away
any build up of energy and bring in sunlight
to lighten and freshen. |
| Candles |
Lighting a candle helps to bring the light
in and around your home. As the flame burns
it also burns away negative energy in the
direct vicinity to where the candle is placed.
|
| Incense |
The smoke and fragrance from burning incense
helps to shift and clear energy in your
home space. |
| Smudging |
In ancient times, smudging was the most
common way to cleanse a space. It is still
very effective and at Sacred Essence, we
smudge regularly to shift and clear our
space. Charcoal tablets and Incense granules
are used to do this. Click

| Music |
Playing your favourite music also helps
to shift and clear energy in and around
your home space. Put some music on while
you clean for a more powerful and fun experience. |
| Clutter
Clearing |
Clutter is something that is build up,
not used, in the wrong space or just general
mess that builds up in and around your home
space. Clearing away items that you no longer
use, or want, or like or that are broken
is a great way to rid your home of unwanted
energy as all clutter helps to add to the
heaviness of your home space. Here's a great
